“I scream, you scream, we all scream for ice cream!” If this immediately brings to mind images of Roberto Benigni, Tom Waits and John Lurie chanting and dancing around their prison cell, then you’ll understand the reference and why we’re teaming up with Italian ice cream specialists Piccolina Gelateria for this special event. If not, please, come enjoy some delicious traditional Italian style ice cream and savour the experience of watching Jim Jarmusch’s stylised masterpiece for the first time.

ON THE NIGHT: Piccolina Gelateria will be bringing down a gelato cart with a fantastic selection of their home made, traditional Italian style gelato and be serving up in the CULT bar. Simply arrive prior to the screening to indulge in these delicious treats (Gelato not included in the ticket price).

Piccolina Gelateria: At Piccolina we don't use any premixes, artificial colours, flavours or nasty numbers … and we never will! Real Italian gelato made the way it used to be. Piccolina Gelateria offers more than 20 all-natural and seasonal gelato, sorbetti and granita flavours, including pistachio; salted caramel; passionfruit; coconut and watermelon; mint; and lime (only a reduced selection of these flavours will be available at CULT).

DOWN BY LAW: Director Jim Jarmusch followed up his brilliant breakout film Stranger Than Paradise with another, equally beloved portrait of loners and misfits in the American landscape. When fate brings together three hapless men—an unemployed disc jockey (Tom Waits), a small-time pimp (John Lurie), and a strong-willed Italian tourist (Roberto Benigni)—in a Louisiana prison, a singular adventure ensues. Described by Jarmusch as a “neo-Beat noir comedy,” Down by Law is part nightmare and part fairy tale, featuring sterling performances and crisp black-and-white cinematography by the esteemed Robby Müller.
